Who is this course for….

This course is designed to provide delegates with the skills and knowledge needed to select and mount abrasive wheels safely and in accordance with the correct regulations. The training covers the hazards and risks associated with the use of abrasive wheels, as well as covering various equipment types including bench grinders, angle grinders and petrol cut off machines. The course is not designed to show delegates how to best use the equipment once the abrasive wheel is fitted.

  • Health and Safety requirements
  • Hazards and risks when mounting and using abrasive wheels (including vibration white finger)
  • PPE requirements
  • Methods of marking
  • Storing, handling and transporting
  • Testing and inspecting
  • Function of components
  • Correct mounting procedures and balancing
  • Dressing
  • Adjustment of work rest and guards.
Other Information:
  • The Abrasive Wheels training will be done at your premises. A classroom, office or suitable area with a plug socket, tables and chairs to allow for completion of theoretical course modules and paperwork must be available.
  • Appropriate machines to demonstrate how to operate the abrasive wheel, and an area on site where the machines can be started
  • A safe area of work for practical demonstrations to take place.

Terms & conditions

1.1) If making a course booking more than 2 weeks from enquiry a 50% non-refundable deposit is to be paid within 48 hours to confirm your course booking. The remaining balance will be due 2 weeks before commencement of the training. An invoice will be raised for the deposit amount upon receipt of the completed booking form.

1.2) If making a course booking less than 2 weeks from enquiry then 100% of the course fees are due to be paid within 48 hours to confirm your course booking.

1.3) If Derwent Training Association do not receive payment for the course booking within the time-frame then your date will be offered to another customer. If final payment is not received before the deadline, Derwent Training reserves the right to cancel the course and the remaining balance is to be paid by the customer.

1.4) For those delegates taking part in a course that requires final examination to gain certification, Derwent Training will not cover the costs of any resits required to pass the course. All resits are to be paid for by the customer. All certificates will be withheld by the training centre until payment has been received.
