Off-the-job log

The off-the-job log is a vital part of your apprenticeship.  Without it, you cannot prove you have spend the correct amount of time developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours. The Department of Education has a right to  review these logs to validate that you have been awarded your apprenticeship correctly.

The log is your responsibility but your Trainer will help you record the activities and the time spent on training each week.

What and why?

During your apprenticeship you are required to spend a minimum number of off-the-job published hours during your working week completing training during your normal working hours.

Off-the-job training refers to

  • anything in the workplace that is new to you, that will support your knowledge and performance, skills development in the workplace
  • is directly relevant to your Apprenticeship and job role, and is undertaken away from your normal working duties
  • all your training and development undertaken at the Training Centre

Examples of off-the-job training may include: work shadowing, industry and inter-departmental visits, individual study time to complete assignments and research, and completing eLearning activities.

Your employer will need to ensure you are allowed time to complete this requirement.

We will support you and your employer in identifying suitable activities.

The key is to ensure that on a weekly basis you log all off-the-job training hours and reflect on the development that has taken place.
