Learning support is available to help you be successful.
Everyone is different and may have a permanent or temporary disability or learning difficulty that requires support.
To tailor support where it will benefit you most, all learners follow a series of steps that start before you start your programme.
Circumstances change during your courses so additional support can start at anytime during your time with us. If you are struggling, speak to us.

During the application phase you completed two forms of assessment. These help us ensure you are on the correct course, whether you need extra literacy and numeracy support on your course and what knowledge, skills & behaviours you have at the start of the course. You can also share your EHCP with us and any other information you think is relevant for us to know.
We are starting to build your personal learning profile.
The BKSB assessment helps us understand your current level of English and maths skills. The BKSB assessment is not a test. There’s no pass or fail.
We use the results to further build your personal learning profile.
On the Personal Development page of the Learner Handbook you will find links that can help you privately self-study to improve your literacy & numeracy skills.
Skills Scans indicate your existing knowledge, skills and behaviours in the the areas you will study on your apprenticeship. You will rate yourself on each area from 1 meaning you consider your level to be low, and 10 meaning you believe you are fully competent in this area. Your employer will be asked to countersign this form.
We use this form to accurately work out what you need to study to achieve occupational competency on your apprenticeship.
During your induction at the Training Centre you will be asked to complete a Personal & Social Development Self-Assessment.
This self-assessment identifies potential barriers to learning that are based on social needs. If we consider there may be a need for additional learning support, we will discuss it with you in order to develop a Learning Support Plan specifically for you.
You can choose to use the additional support or you can refuse it. It is up to you.
During your apprenticeship everyone will receive support to be successful. Routinely you will take part in tripartite reviews with your Trainer and your employer where you will review and discuss your progress, where you need to focus next and set targets to keep you on track.
We also provide support for your well being as well as having further ways to provide additional learning support.
If you have declared a learning difficulty or disability, we can arrange for an independent assessor to visit the Training Centre to talk with you. They will advise us what type of additional learning support we can offer you. This is important because getting the right support at the right time is key to you being successful.
For example, you may be entitled to additional time in exams; you might have a reader or note taker in class; resources may be changed to help you access them online etc. There are many ways to help you.
If you have a Learning Support Plan, your Trainer will meet with you regularly to check that the help we are providing is working for you. We can make adjustments to your plan at any time. The most important thing is that you have all the support you need.
