After growing the business during the 1990’s and 2000’s Holmes was acquired by Space Catering in 2014 and traded as Holmes Catering Equipment Solutions Ltd.

In 2016, Space Catering was acquired by Nisbets plc, and in 2018, Holmes was integrated into Space Catering (UK) Ltd, continuing to operate under the Holmes Catering name as a division of Space Catering (UK) Ltd. Most recently, in 2024, Nisbets was acquired by Bunzl plc, in one of the largest transactions in the UK catering industry.

Holmes has always offered nation-wide service out of its Yorkshire base, with its factory based just outside historic Stamford Bridge in Full Sutton. It is from here it has developed an extensive materials and support service supply chain.

Whilst many of the team have been with Holmes for over 10 years, which brings a great depth of experience and skill, Holmes is also committed to developing new talent, typically supporting two or three apprentices at any given time.

Job Description:

This is a hands-on apprenticeship where you will learn to manufacture high-quality metal products while working alongside experienced fabricators. You will gain practical experience combined with formal training.

Day to day duties include

  • Assisting in the fabrication of stainless steel and metal products
  • Cutting, shaping, assembling and finishing of various metal components
  • Operation of fabrication equipment including saws, drills and welders
  • Reading and following precise engineering drawings
  • Supporting other welding and assembly processes
  • Carry out quality checks
  • Maintaining a safe working environment
  • Work as part of a team to deliver projects

There are 2-3 apprenticeship positions available with Holmes Catering in this role.

Please Note: Personal transport is essential to all successful applicants as Holmes Catering is not on a public transport route.

Qualifications Required:

All applicants must have achieved a minimum of 4 GCSEs (9-4 / A*-C) including English and Maths.

Qualifications Gained(upon completion):

Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard which includes the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies as it qualification element.

This will ideally lead to a long-term career in the fabrication industry, with career progression opportunities throughout.
