Job Description:

The Production Apprentice will support the production team while developing practical skills and knowledge across a range of manufacturing processes. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience in areas such as CNC machining, robot operation, injection moulding, presswork, tooling support, workplace safety and general production duties.

The apprentice will work under supervision, building confidence and competence over time while contributing to safe, efficient and high-quality production activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance, preparation and insert changing of injection mould and presswork tooling.
  • Support basic CNC tasks for production runs of repeated parts, following instructions and approved working methods.
  • Learn and assist with the safe operation of production equipment, including CNC machines, robots, injection moulding machines and presswork equipment.
  • Carry out routine safety checks, inspections and basic housekeeping tasks as instructed.
  • Follow documented work instructions, production procedures and quality requirements.
  • Report any equipment faults, safety concerns, quality issues or unusual operating conditions to a supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area, contributing to good standards across the wider site.
  • Assist with general production duties as required by the Production Manager or department supervisor.
  • Take an active role in learning, training and personal development throughout the apprenticeship.

Health, Safety and Quality

  • Follow all company health and safety procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and site rules.
  • Use any required personal protective equipment correctly and responsibly.
  • Work safely at all times and seek guidance before carrying out unfamiliar tasks.
  • Support a culture of safe working by keeping walkways, workstations and shared areas clear and tidy.
  • Understand the importance of producing work to the required quality standard and escalating concerns where necessary.
Qualifications Required:

4 or more GCSE’s, including English and Maths at grade 4 or above are essential.

  • A practical interest in manufacturing, engineering, or production processes
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Good attention to detail and a careful approach to work
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
  • Positive attitude towards health, safety, housekeeping, and quality
Skills Required:
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ask questions when unsure
  • Basic numeracy and literacy,
  • Communication and Teamworking skills appropriate to the role.
Qualifications Gained(upon completion):

Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship Standard (Which contains the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining)
