Engineering the next generation

Derwent Training Association are pleased to welcome over 40 apprentice starts to the training centre during September.

Our Chief Executive Officer, Claire Gavaghan said this: ”The impact of the pandemic together with the withdrawal from the EU has impacted on the engineering sector. The industry is regrouping and we are pleased to support them by training their employees. We have welcomed a large number of new apprentices, and employers are continuing to recruit as productivity increases. We are alongside them every step of the way.”

With a shortage of skilled engineers across the region, we are excited to be working in partnership with 11 new employers, along with the 6 that joined us in 2020, to help them train their next generation of engineers through the apprenticeship route. We are pleased to see that 7% of our intake this year are females which is well above the average for Engineering and Manufacturing.

We are holding our first Open Evening on Wednesday 17th November 5pm – 7pm where you can visit the training centre to find out more about what Derwent Training can offer. If you are an employer wanting to invest in apprenticeships, or someone thinking of progressing onto an apprenticeship in engineering as their next step you can register here.
