What will I do on this Apprenticeship?

You will combine on-the-job learning with your employer where you are expected to complete at least half a day off-the-job learning to meet the 20% off-the-job training requirement. You will attend our training centre in Malton one day a month (18 days) for face-to-face delivery with your trainer. 

 

Your trainer will visit you in the workplace every 10 weeks to complete a tripartite review with you and your employer to check progress and set targets. 

Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship

The Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship Standard is for an employee in a senior management role, with operational and project responsibilities, or responsibility for managing a team or teams to deliver a clear defined outcome. They provide direction, operational instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone working in the private, public, or third sector, and all sizes of organisations. Specific responsibilities may vary, but the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Duties

 

  • Provide operational leadership and people management.
  • Keep up to date with IT and digital interventions such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and software that can be used in their sector.
  • Analyse, interpret and cascade data to enable tracking, trend analysis and metric reporting to enable decision making for managing objectives and targets.
  • Manage and influence activities and projects within budget and resources to deliver change and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of their resource plans considering future organisation needs and impact on change requirements.
  • Interpret and comply with relevant legislation and regulation and the impact on their organisation.
  • Lead and manage the team to ensure the application of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Lead the team and individual training needs and support continuous professional development.
  • Communicate complex information to build understanding and drive team and organisational performance.
  • Manage activities which drive the organisation’s sustainability goals.
  • Build and manage internal relationships and collaborate with colleagues to enable cross-team working.
  • Lead and respond to risk management, assessing the opportunities which could affect individual and team performance, and finding solutions that meet their needs.
  • Develop and implement their operational plan that aligns with the strategic direction of the organisation.
Portfolio of Evidence – Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours (Workplace)

A portfolio of jobs to evidence skills, knowledge and behaviours and will be collated with jobs the employee is doing in the workplace. This portfolio will be specific to the apprentice’s job role.

End-Point Assessment

The End-Point Assessment is a final assessment for every apprentice to ensure they are competent to undertake the role they have been training in throughout the apprenticeship. This will be carried out independently by the End-Point Assessment Organisation and will include a presentation with question and answers as well as a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Where might this Apprenticeship take me?

On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, to support their professional career development and progession. Alternatively, they may choose to further their educational studies with various higher level training.

Entry Requirements
  • You will ideally have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s (9-4 / A*-C) including English and Maths or equivalent
  • If you haven’t achieved at a GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths then you must be prepared to work towards a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in these subjects. This is a requirement of the Apprenticeship Standard
  • You must be working at least 30 hours per week in a Team Leader Role or working towards one, to collate evidence for your portfolio.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the apprenticeship is partly funded by both the Government and the employer. Ask Derwent Training how the funding rules will apply to your business – there are no training costs to be paid by the apprentice. 

You will be expected to pay for your travel method to attend Derwent Training for any face-to-face delivery. 

Apprenticeship Wage

What you earn as an apprentice will depend on your age, the apprenticeship standard and the location of the employer.

If you are 16-18, or 19 or over and in the first year of your apprenticeship then you may be entitled to the National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage. Many employers do pay more than this but as you are their employee it is their decision. You must be paid for:

  • your normal working hours
  • training that is part of your apprenticeship (at least 20% of your normal working hours)
  • study towards English and Maths qualifications, if they are part of your apprenticeship.
