DTA apprentices make changes at Industry Apprentice Council Meeting

IQ Engineers apprentices Liam and Dezhaun along with DTA's Business Administrator Alyssa attended the Industry Apprentice Council meeting at Siemens in Manchester on Friday 1st June.

The Industry Apprentice Council (IAC) was founded by Semta - who is the awarding body for engineering apprentices - and is the UK's industry voice for apprentices predominantly from the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector.

The meeting was held to discuss different aspects of apprenticeceships and covered different topics on how the panel can help to develop apprenticeships in the UK. One of these ways was for the IAC to build relationships with large, prominent employers to help them to develop apprenticeships and to help with this, a number of the IAC panel has been accepted as members onto the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) apprentice panel who approve Apprenticeship Standards in the UK.

DTA's Alyssa is also a member of the National Society of Apprenticeships (NSoA) and discussed with the panel how they are working towards similar objectives and how them and the IAC could work together to take the same issues and become a louder voice for apprentices.

The IAC also distributes a survey to all apprentices completing their apprenticeships through Semta to find out their views. The 2018 survey was discussed and what changes could be made to make the apprenticeship experience better for all.

Liam, Dezhaun and Alyssa found the meeting useful to see how they can make changes for all apprentices in the UK and are motivated being from a small training provider and SME in North Yorkshire on how they can make a difference nationally.
