Apprentice Electronics Engineer

Job Description:


  • Assembly and testing of electronic and high voltage equipment as well as clean assembly of precision parts and components
  • Adherence to assembly and test procedures as well as completion of test sheets to required specification
  • Provide support to assembly, testing and commissioning of the company‚Äôs various products e.g. high voltage power supply, high voltage plug and cable, field emission gun, thermal field emitters, and other related products
  • Provide technical and production support to other departments to key production processes e.g. field emission guns and emitter production
  • Compliance with quality control and internal procedures e.g. stock, issue reporting

With training and support we expect that you will in due course also;

  • Recommend process improvements to enhance testing efficiency
  • Process component approvals and coordinare with relevant departments 
  • Identify equipment required to maintain and improve performance 
  • Identify test procedures that either required or can be improved 
  • Compile reports of errors and issues detected (evaluation of technical problems)
  • Diagnosis of product failures down to component level 
  • Understand and interpret drawings, schematics, technical manuals and instructions
  • Ensure all repairs are conducted correctly and efficiently (under supervision)

Qualifications Required:

We recommend that applicants have a minimum of 4 GCSEs (A*-C / 9-4) in Maths, English and Science or equivalent.

  • A genuine interest in engineering and science
  • Enthusiasm to learn and a desire to succeed.

Skills Required:

  • Good planning and organising skills
  • Good communication skills; the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Well organised and able to prioritise, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and capable of dealing with fast moving and varied events 
  • Computer literate with a minimum basic MS-Word and intermediate MS-Excel skills, specifically, spreadsheet capability

Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard
