What will I do on this Apprenticeship?

You will combine on-the-job learning with your employer where you are expected to complete at least half a day off-the-job learning to meet the 20% off-the-job training requirement. You will attend our training centre in Malton one day a month (18 days) for face-to-face delivery with your trainer. 

 

Your trainer will visit you in the workplace every 10 weeks to complete a tripartite review with you and your employer to check progress and set targets. 

Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor Apprenticeship

The Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard is for an employee in a first line management role, with operational and project responsibilities, or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clear defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone working in the private, public, or third sector, and all sizes of organisations. Specific responsibilities may vary, but the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Management of Self
  • Able to create an effective personal development plan
  • Use time management techniques to manage workload and pressure
Leading People
  • Able to communicate organisation strategy and team purpose, and adapt style to suit the audience
  • Support through development of the team and people through coaching, role modelling values and behaviours
  • Managing change effectively.
Managing People
  • Ability to build high-performing team by supporting and developing individuals, and motivating them to achieve
  • Able to set operational and personal goals and objectives and monitor progress
  • Provide clear guidance and feedback.
Building Relationships
  • Building trust with and across the team
  • Use effective negotiating and influencing skills, and managing any conflicts
  • Able to input to discussions and provide feedback (to team and more widely)
  • Identify and share good practice across teams
  • Build relationships with customers and managing these effectively
Operational Management

Portfolio of Evidence – Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours (Workplace)

A portfolio of jobs to evidence skills, knowledge and behaviours and will be collated with jobs the employee is doing in the workplace. This portfolio will be specific to the apprentice’s job role.

End-Point Assessment

The End-Point Assessment is a final assessment for every apprentice to ensure they are competent to undertake the role they have been training in throughout the apprenticeship. This will be carried out independently by the End-Point Assessment Organisation and will include a presentation with question and answers as well as a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Where might this Apprenticeship take me?

On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, to support their professional career development and progession. Alternatively, they may choose to further their educational studies with the Level 5 Operational Departmental Manager Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
  • You will ideally have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s (9-4 / A*-C) including English and Maths or equivalent
  • If you haven’t achieved at a GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths then you must be prepared to work towards a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in these subjects. This is a requirement of the Apprenticeship Standard
  • You must be working at least 30 hours per week in a Team Leader or Supervisor role, or working towards one, to collate evidence for your portfolio.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the apprenticeship is funded by the Government and the employer – there are no training costs to be paid by the apprentice. 

 

You will be expected to pay for your travel method to attend Derwent Training for any face-to-face delivery. 

Apprenticeship Wage

What you earn as an apprentice will depend on your age, the apprenticeship standard and the location of the employer.

If you are 16-18, or 19 or over and in the first year of your apprenticeship then you may be entitled to the National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage. Many employers do pay more than this but as you are their employee it is their decision. You must be paid for:

  • your normal working hours
  • training that is part of your apprenticeship (at least 20% of your normal working hours)
  • study towards English and Maths qualifications, if they are part of your apprenticeship.
