VACANCY - Electrical Trainer

Derwent Training Association has a unique opportunity to teach electrical engineering both in a classroom and in the workplace. Derwent Training has continued delivery of training from March 2020 throughout the pandemic, with only a break at Christmas. The pandemic is impacting us all.  We know this lockdown is affecting everyone, both physically and mentally, leaving people exhausted. We become snappy with each other and with our families. Neither of these is good, though each is understandable. 

We have a duty of care to our employees and our learners. We want and need staff to rest and stay well. This pandemic will be a long hauk. To that end, we have taken the decision to take the February half-term off. From Monday 15th February to Friday 19th February, we will stop working and be off emails. 

Derwent Training Association will be holding a Virtual Open Evening on Thursday 11th February at 5pm to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. 

Build the Future is the theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2021 and is aimed to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help individuals to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career. 

At Derwent Training we recognise the importance of gaining feedback from learners to help improve what we offer. We are putting together a Learner Council that will allow us to receive feedback from each cohort with Learner Reps who will feedback to the Senior Leadership Team. Information on how you can become a Learner Rep is detailed below. 

What is a Learner Rep?

In light of the recent Government announcements, Derwent Training has taken the decision to go 100% remote learning until at least Monday 18th January. 

This decision has been based on a number of factors:

Derwent Training will be closed for the Christmas Break from 12pm on Friday 18th December. Please note that the centre will be closed to learners and staff on Monday 4th January to allow for a deep clean of the building before term starts. Anyone due to attend on Monday 4th January will not attend and will attend the centre on their next communicated attendance day as per their email from the Business Support Team. All staff will be working remotely on this day. Attendance for learners will begin as normal from Tuesday 5th January 2021.

Since early 2019, it was apparent that leaving the EU would have a largely negative impact on most sectors in the UK, certainly in the short term. Research from the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), highlights a lack of training for leaders in the region. Such a deficit ultimately impacts on growth and productivity. Many people who are promoted to a leadership and management role, are 'accidental managers', developing informally and/or by instinct.

As a training provider, we knew we had to expand our mission in order to support employers in the region. Derwent Training now offers a Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor Apprenticeship that is applicable to first line managers and supervisors from all sectors, private, public or third sector, and from any size organisation. Typically, these managers are responsible for delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships. These apprenticeships are supported by Government funding and available to an employee of any age.

The Redundancy Support Service for Apprentices (ReSSA), launched by the Department of Education, provides clear, accessible advice and guidance to apprentices following redundancy, while supporting their next steps. It will help redundant apprentices to identify new apprenticeship and employment opportunities, and, where they are eligible, complete their current apprenticeship. 

This service will enable individuals to access free online information and telephone support, helping to connect them with national and local support services, including financial, legal, health and wellbeing and careers advice. It will also share with apprentices details of new apprenticeship opportunities being offered by employers in their region. 

Following the Government's announcment, and the supporting evidence at the weekend we are increasing our Covid-Secure measures. 

Derwent Training will remain open, and we will continue to adhere to the risk assessments that are reviewed and updated regularly. We are continuing to maintain low occupancy levels, staff and learners adhere to social distancing, hand sanitisers are available around the building, temperature scans on arrival, staff wearing face coverings, and adhering to the one-way system around the centre.
